Sketch Friday

My apologies for the late posts, if you read my previous post I have been busy with a few projects especially a big on due out in Feb. However, I am still sketching daily especially for this whole inktober thing. I saw a few of my favorite artists do it on Instagram so thought why not give it a shot. I am trying to do it daily and since it is October I am basing mine off of familiar horror characters. The main rule for inktober is that it has to be traditional with ink (pencil underdrawing allowed).

Here are my first few for the month.

The black lagoon.

Everyone's favorite Mogwai.

Hail to the King baby!

Looking for the Keymaster?

I have 27 more days to go so wish me luck!

Sketch Friday

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the long gap in between posts. I am trying to keep consistent by posting every Friday, but work and just life in general catches up with you fast. It's like you blink and all the sudden it's September? Where the heck did summer go? As for me, I have been working on quite a few projects that I can't talk about just yet but I am super excited and cannot wait to show you. For the upcoming conventions In November I am working on quite a few new prints, Thundercats, Pacific Rim, and some horror movie characters are all going to be given the Patrick Ballesteros twist to them so stay tuned!

In the meantime I know it is Friday and we all what to get out and enjoy the weekend, but dangit doesn't it always seem like something comes up right before you are about to leave to go home? I call this the "Monkey Hour". It's basically when someone gives me some BS work to do that I could have done earlier in the day and really is of no importance. However, you have to treat it as a rush item and finish it before your weekend can start.

This is how I feel sometimes doing this "Monkey Work."

Not to end on a bitter note here are some sketches that I did out and about this week. Enjoy the weekend and get the Monkey Work done so you can finally relax! I know, it's been a long week for us all.

Sketch Friday

I used to always draw these guys after school right before watching the cartoon series in the 90's. I watch the series know and the animation wasn't the greatest but seeing these characters move and have a voice was a dream come true. Here is my take on a few of the characters I really loved in the comics and on screen.

Also, these are the final proofs I have approved for my postcard set.

Can't wait for Comic Con!

Sketch Friday!

This was a commission for a super fun couple who both bought some of my artwork. Yujia contacted me and asked I depict her and her bf on their many travels and asked me specifically to include a feral cow. This is what I came up with and I actually had quite a bit of fun with this.

She surprised him with this on their anniversary so I was very happy to be part of a great memory! Thank you 2, wishing you the best!

Sketch Friday

So I started this Panda Mech as a demo for the students at the UCI Video Game Club last night. I had so much fun with it that I decided to take the concept even further and plan on incorporating it into my series of characters from my "Revenge of the Paw" project. This is the first iteration but I plan to clean it up and lock the design down soon!

Also, I just got a batch of new prints fresh off the presses for my piece "Indy Art". They are 11x17 inches and are only 15 bucks! You can check them out at my online store here. Also, I still have limited edition prints of this one available so if you are still interested in those you can order them from my online store as well.

A lot of things in the works for me, thanks again for dropping by and for supporting my work you all keep me going!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sketch Friday

Not so much a sketch but it started out as one if that Anyways, every so often I get commission requests, some can be fun and interesting while others can be quite random and make me scratch my head. This one actually caught my eye and I was happy to do it for such a great guy.

Bryan is in the military and he contacted me a few months ago and asked if I could do 2 illustrations of playful scenarios of him with his son and daughter. He wanted to present the illustrations as a gift to his kids on his deployment ceremony. I was extremely honored to be part of this occasion and gladly accepted. Below is what we came up for his kids.

And here are a few pics of the ceremony and of Bryan presenting the illustrations to his kids.

Its moments like these that remind me why I chose to be an artist. Bringing joy to others and helping to create memories is what being an artist is all about and I was happy to be a part of one on this day.

Sketch Friday

My apologies for not posting until today. Things have been super crazy with work and I just got some exciting news. I was just notified yesterday that I will have a table in Artist Alley at this year's Comic-Con International-San Diego! I am super excited and am preparing a lot of new material so in the coming weeks you will see a sneak peak here and there of what I will have available during the convention. I hope to see some familiar faces and look forward to meeting some new ones. I will post more info as the dates gets closer. Until then, here is my sketch for this awesome Friday!

This was a demo for my online class at CGMA.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sketch Friday

Hey all, I did a little something different for this week's sketch friday. For those on Instagram I posted my process of this from initial concept to finished lineart LIVE as I was working on it. I will try and do this every once in a while as it is pretty challenging to draw and update at the same time. If you want you can catch up with me next time I try this on Instagram, just look for PatrickBallest.

The idea of this one is it is a book launcher for the upcoming book release of my next kid's book "How To Be A Super Hero" mentioned in the previous post. Alright, have a great weekend everyone and hope to see some of you Sunday!

Sketch Friday

Sorry for missing my Wednesday post, I started this but wasn't able to finish it until today. No major story or anything associated to this, more of just a free sketch day and just getting back to having fun before getting back to work.

Have a great weekend everyone!
