When you are thinking about posture and proportions for mechanical designs it really helps to look at nature. This design was based off of a gorilla drawing I did a few days ago. The key to drawing robots and mechs is a term called "functional believability." That basically means if it looks like it will work then people will buy into it. By no means am I an engineer, what I do know are shapes and I study things like planes, construction vehicles, tanks, farm equipment, etc. Studying these man made objects helps me to insert design language that works or feels appropriate for functionality.
It's a lot to take in and I will do a better tutorial of this in the future. Until then have a great weekend everyone!
